Over Easter the forum was moved from a server running macOS Server to a machine running Debian 10.3 (Buster) Linux.
This made it possible to upgrade php to a more recent and recommended version. In addition bug fixes for the XenForo forum software was deployed.
The machine the forum is now running on is also a healthy performance upgrade over the 2014 model Mac mini it was running on.
Background
In 2018 discontinued macOS Server because core portions of the open source software included in the server feature had changed to a license model that was incompatible with the closed source portions of macOS and macOS Server. Because of this, macOS server 5.4, which is the last version containing the full feature set, over time became more and more outdated, and only received minimal security patches.
